Parotid Surgery (Parotidectomy) involves the surgical removal of part or all of the parotid gland – the largest salivary gland located in front of and below the ear. It is performed for parotid tumors (benign or malignant), chronic parotid infections, and salivary gland stones.

What is Parotid Surgery?
The parotid gland produces saliva and is located on each side of the face, in front of the ears. Parotidectomy may be superficial (removal of the superficial lobe), total, or extended depending on the extent of disease. The facial nerve, which controls facial movements, passes through the gland and must be carefully identified and preserved.
